Listed here are the tools I normally use for video conversions.
When the source is a VHS tape:
-
Insignia VHS/DVD device: to dub from VHS tape to DVD (which must be finalized to be readable elsewhere)
-
(TODO: create video acquisition card system to allow direct dubbing from VHS tape to some digital format e.g. mpeg)
When the source is a normal video DVD:
-
TMPGEnc: to convert the DVD video into MPEG's
-
Sorenson Squeeze: to convert MPG into FLV
When the source is a 720x480 MPEG from a TV card:
-
TMPGEnc: to slice and recombine the MPEG's in their original 720x480 size
-
Sorenson Squeeze: to convert MPG into FLV
-
Adobe Premiere Pro: to convert WMV into MPG
-
Sorenson Squeeze: to convert MPG into FLV
When the destination is a normal video DVD:
-
The video source must be 720x480 (TODO: learn how to convert smaller video into acceptable 720x480 video via stretching, or surrounding-it-by-a-black-border, etc.)
-
Adobe Encore DVD
The normal parameters for our web-posted FLV video:
-
80 Kbps audio
-
176 Kbps video
-
240x180 in dimension
-
